Digital Citizenship: 6 Ways for Families to Learn More and Help Their Schools!

Digital Citizenship Week is October 16 - 20, 2017 and PTA would like to share some tips to help parents have “DigCit” conversations at our schools. When parents and students learn more about digital citizenship, we help create a positive school culture that supports safe and responsible technology use.

If you and other parents at your school want to learn more about where to look for practical tips on social media, apps, and technology information AND help your school receive Common Sense School digital citizenship certification recognition, here are 6 items you can discuss with your Principal:

1. Offering to help your school site distribute the Common Sense Family Tip Sheets which align with the topics being covered at your school or the Common Sense Family Media Agreement

2. Hosting a school-wide parent education evening with a teen panel using materials, ideas, and best practices from the Common Sense Connecting Families program

3. Encouraging parent leaders to facilitate ongoing family engagement activities using Common Sense Connecting Families resources

4. Publishing an article about the importance of digital citizenship in the school newsletter

5. Posting a link to Common Sense on the school's website

6. Providing parents easy access to advice on parenting in the digital age by adding the Common Sense Parent News and Advice Blog widget on your school's website
